FAQ

  • HOW OLD DOES MY DOG HAVE TO BE TO VISIT THE PARK?

We want puppies to be over the age of six months.

  • DOES MY DOG HAVE TO BE NEUTERED OR SPAYED TO VISIT THE PARK?

Male dogs have to be neutered by 9 months old. If they are showing hormonally-driven behavior like marking inappropriate objects or humping, they may be excused from the park until they get neutered. Six weeks following their procedure, they are welcome to come back! Female dogs cannot be in heat when visiting the dog park.

  • MY DOG IS SHY. IS THE PARK A GOOD PLACE TO BRING THEM?

Our assessment test will tell us more about your dog’s ability to cope in a dog park setting. You might meet other dogs like yours here and you can arrange dates with other owners whose dogs are a good “match” for yours. It’s all about community and finding what your dog needs and making it happen! Our “small dog” park area is perfect for more shy or timid dogs.

  • I HAVE THREE (OR MORE) DOGS. CAN I BRING THEM ALL TO THE PARK AT ONE TIME?

Unfortunately, no. We limit your “pack play” to two dogs in the park at any time. So they can take turns, bringing two into the park and then the other, simply alternating which dogs are in the park at a time. In order to minimize the “pack” mentality, we have to limit dogs from a single household to two at a time.

  • WHY DOES MY DOG REQUIRE A FECAL TEST EVERY SIX MONTHS?

To the best of our ability, we want to maintain a clean environment at the park. Our animal healthcare providers suggest this policy and we agree that it’s a good one! People are often surprised to discover their dog is positive for something like Giardia (quite common in the Pacific Northwest area) or a parasite, even though their dog showed no symptoms. So a fecal test every six months is quite simply smart protocol.

  • ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS ON WHAT DOG BREEDS ARE ALLOWED AT THE PARK?

Yes. As much as we love them, we cannot accept pit bulls. They make wonderful therapy and service dogs, but it’s a breed we cannot have off-leash on our property due to our insurance limitations. Some predatory breeds may require a more extensive evaluation. If your dog has a strong prey drive or is a predatory breed, email us at info@solsdogpark.com so we can better assist you.
